About Goddess Dance

All girls and women are unique and beautiful expressions of the Goddess. We say "the" Goddess because it is an archetype. It would be very different to say, I am "a" goddess, which implies a decision about whether I should identify myself that way. We are embodying the Divine Feminine. Our goals:

1. Create a supportive, inclusive opportunity for women to dance together... All are welcome;

2. "Goddess Dance" is a form of belly dance that focuses on embodying the Feminine by exploring and expressing the sacred feminine shapes & energy (crescent, circle, undulation, flow) as well as balancing that with the divine masculine shapes & energy (points, slides, pops, shimmies);

3. Body-Affirming --help women to feel more comfortable with their unique bodies and to feel free to openly express themselves in a venue that is safe and affirming;

4. Create an attitude of BEING the FEMININE... This can be done in many ways... One way could be how we experience clothing, jewelry... i.e. we could imagine that when we get dressed we are adorning the altar of the Goddess, making it sacred and celebratory.

We include:

Musicality & Rhythms to help dancers match up Middle Eastern rhythms with movements in improv so they can lead / follow each other better.

Rhythms--drumming and zills to help dancers identify and know and recognize rhythms easily and to be able to put together zills with certain rhythms and moves.

Non-traditional Tribal / Improv basics to help the group to develop a way to lead and follow in a circle facing in toward each other in a matching capacity instead of mirror capacity. In other words, matching the quality and energy of the movements as a follower but not necessarily doing the same exact move.

Various Props and Movement / Dance we relate
movements & objects as archetypal expressions... Middle Eastern rhythms are matched up with elements of Nature due to their qualites (i.e. chiftitelli=water; bolero=air... Or Elements represented by props (veil = air... water bowls... candles = fire... sticks / swords = earth.)

Belly Dance Circle
This Goddess Mysteries forum is about embodying the Divine Feminine in a circle format with others. It is fun and inclusive and creative. Using the sacred Feminine shapes, movement and rhythms, in balance with the sacred Masculine, we explore our hidden Goddess in this ancient dance as we imagine women may have done for generations in times past. Many believe that "belly dance" was simply a way that women danced together in tribal cultures in the Middle East before Hollywood got hold of it in the early 20th century. They didn't call it belly dance and it was done in community, not on stage for others.

We focus on Middle Eastern rhythms, core belly dance movements and finding your own dance in an affirming and fun group environment.

Goddess Dance with girls at Wog Harts

When we dance together in circle we face in toward each other, we match rather than mirror (expressing the energy and general movement of the person leading), we invoke the spirit of the Goddess, mythic archetypes and the spirit of play. Every woman, every girl is a unique expression of the Goddess.

No experience necessary. All welcome.
